We traveled all night and arrived in Anchorage at 4 AM in the morning. Check in time was 3 PM. We were exhausted and decided to stop by the hotel to see if they had an open room but they were fully booked the night before. As I was going out to the car to tell my husband, a family checked out. Sheila told me she would have housekeeping take care of our room and it would be ready in an hour. We were thrilled. On our second night two of our granddaughters had to stay with us. My husband informed the front desk and a rollaway bed was delivered to our room within 5 minutes. The entire staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. The food at the Bistro was delicious. I had smoked salmon Eggs Benedict two times while we were there. Yum...The menu had a wide variety of choices and the service was exceptional. I wish we had more days to eat at the Bistro. Our room was sparkling clean and comfortable. The bathroom had Papaya brand dispensers on the wall. We absolutely will be returning to the Golden Lion Hotel when we visit our grandson who is stationed in Anchorage. Thank you for the wonderful experience. Booked well in advance to confirm a very attractive rate. Great value for price paid. Clean room with very comfortable bed. Appreciated having a refrigerator and microwave in the room. Very close to Moose's Tooth (best pizza around). Would stay here again. The Golden Lion has exceptional guest service. Clean rooms great amenities. I was not sure how long I would need to stay as I was transitioning my husband from Providence Hospital to a care center for more rehabbing. I had to keep extending my stay and every employee went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Will stay again and recommend to all. Thank you!!! This hotel is older. The halls and entry are nice enough. The guy who checked me in, Tim, was great. Pricing was good compared to other hotels in the area at 161/night in August. The rooms have a nice TV and comfy beds. That is what I liked. What I didn't like was when I got to my room it was clear housekeeping had not finished. They left all the soap dispensers open and all the lights on. He moved me next door. Same issue. He got the night maintenance and showed him. They closed them up and I settled in. In the morning when I went to shower I found out there was no shampoo because they had not refilled it. Here are a few other items noticed which detracted from my experience. The bath door won't close. The tiles in the shower are cracked and poorly glued together. The faucet knob nearly came off in my hand. The shower curtain rod is falling off. The air vent is filthy and there is rust on the frame of the dropped ceiling above the shower. The A/C unit is in Celsius and most of the buttons are damaged. The lamp on my night stand has the bulb and socket dangling. I did set it back in place. The lampshades are cracked and some have holes in them. The outlet in the bathroom is sticking out and not secured. Someone below mentioned getting a voucher for breakfast. I did not get anything. No breakfast of any kind unless you want to buy it at the restaurant on the second floor. Most BW I stay at have some sort of food in the morning. When leaving I was asked how my stay was. I said it was okay with a shrug. She didn't bother to ask any additional questions to find out why my stay was not great. I may stay here again but only after exploring other alternatives. Very nice rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Very good food.
