We first brought our very sick dog here a year ago, after she was undiagnosed with a severe issue from another hospital. She was treated, referred, and also hospitalized. Since then, we have used Pet ER exclusively until we find another vet capable of taking care of her unique problems. It is expensive, but we have repeatedly gotten quality treatment and advice from them. The inexperience of the front desk staff shows at times, but we have been treated with care and respect. Dr. Walton (the internist who travels to AK) is one of the most knowledgeable animal physicians I have come across. He takes so much time to discuss issues, answer questions and give options. The Vets and techs on staff have a wonderful knowledge base, and are caring and compassionate. I would recommend this hospital for care for your pet. Have used this facility many times for many pets over time. Always pleased with the professional service and caring staff. Yes, it costs a bit more to use an ER facility. ERs maintain staff 24/7 and a wide variety of advanced diagnostic equipment beyond what most GP veterinary practices have in house. The wait time can vary as they triage critical care cases. I had an occasion to stop in again on the weekend with a routine issue (that would have become a critical issue without care) because regular clinic was closed. While waiting to be seen I recalled the many times past dogs and current accident prone Boxer dog had been treated here. Glad to have this facility here. If you want your pet to live or pass on peacefully do not go here. My 11 year old cat out of the blue started bloating. So I took him to the only place open. I paid for the exam. The vet was worried but refused to do any x-rays or blood tests till I had payment in full which they estimated to 800-1000 dollars for blood work and 1 xray. I was in between checks so I did not at the time have 1000 dollars just laying around. They refused to make a payment plan of any kind. My cat passed on 3 days later 1 day away from my paycheck. He passed on in so much pain. If they would have just worked with me I could have at least made the choice to put him to sleep the day we took him in. Instead he spent hours in pain before he passed. I will Never go back here. This place was the closest place to where my dog was hit by a car. Never mind the expensive price, the paying upfront in advance for possible things to come up and then being asked for more money. I understand it but think it’s rude. I was going through medical stuff myself and money was an isssue explained my own situation. Told numerous staff that I needed to know when things would be done so I would sleep with phone by my bed. Never got a call. Of course owed them more money each time we checked in her totally 1800 for 24 hours with of care. They even wanted to charge me for another 12 hours because I wasn’t there at 6am- because no one explained that to me. Anyway, that’s not the worst of it. I ended up having to go to another vet a few days later who was visibly upset with care given to her. I had brought all my paperwork and meds Fromm Pet ER so he knew what the deal with her was. She was hit by a car and had the air forced out if her lungs. They never took out the air from her cavity so her breathing was terrible. They said the procedure was too traumatic for her but not being able to breathe wasn’t?!? 260 cc of air ended up being taken from her cavity. Then they misdiagnosed her with only 1 fracture- after them having her for 24 hours and telling me there were no fractures. New vet showed 4 from their x-ray. She was given barely no pain management at all. The other vet said it was the equivalent of me going in for a broken leg and being given Advil. They had to shave more to get to more of her road rash that wasn’t healing. New vet even commented about what kind of sutures they had used in her leg. He was really upset. I mean I can see 1 issue but not all of it . So sad when you put your trust in professionals and that’s what happens. I think her suffering for the few days more thinking she would be getting better and it not happening hurts the worst. Went to a another vet and for 900 had way better treatment of my dog and proper diagnosis and she was a entire new dog. Probably because she could breathe and was heavily medicated! Which were imperative for good healing. I am surprised that with so many doctors on staff at pet er that no one else caught the mistakes. I am not sure if it was poor communication between vets and staff or what but what a disaster and sad that it was my dog who suffered. Yes, the wait was long. But everything else was great!! The receptionist was helpful, and the Vet was pleasant and informative. We could not afford both medications, so one was "gifted" to us. Under $100.00 for exam and medicine. Now we did not need any tests done, but that is still a very fair price for an after hours pet clinic. As for the waiting, there's a vending machine, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a play area for the kids. Also a TV with a dvd player and pixar movies. Thanks soo much for the help!!
