We brought in our little pocket pet to investigate a lump - the staff were very helpful and friendly, Dr. John the exotics vet was great and really went out of his way to help us through what ended up being a difficult time. Would very much recommend Hillside Pet Clinic especially if you have a small animal! Good except performed tests I did not consent to. Took my dog in for a GI problem. They gave me a quote for all the things they could do, including X-ray, in-house labs, send-out labs, antibiotics, and an anti-nausea injection. I said I only wanted the X-ray. They had me sign the quote for everything, even though I only wanted one item. After the X-ray came back negative, I asked them to perform their in-house blood work ($25 cheaper than the send-out and does not include certain labs and urinalysis, which my dog did not need). The doctor came back to the room and told me they had the send-out labs processing. When I said I had asked for the in-house blood work only, she said "Oh, well, we already have the specimens, so why don't we send them? He's a 10 year old dog so you might as well." I asked how they obtained the urine specimen (he had no urinary symptoms). They performed an ultrasound-guided cystocentesis, without my consent (this involves inserting a needle through the dog's abdomen into his bladder and withdrawing urine). I had no recourse, as I had signed the quote that had everything on it (since they would not provide me with a quote for just what I wanted to consent to), and it was too late, they had already performed the procedure. They performed an invasive test that I I did not consent to and that my dog didn't need done. The doctor seemed to have a good knowledge base, but the clinic as a team left me feeling like I had been taken advantage of, and my older dog went through a procedure he didn't need. Will not be returning. I at first only went to Hillside pet clinic because of Dr. Jackie. Who in my opinion is the best Avian vet in Alaska. I took my little yorkie poo to have her spade The front desk went way above and beyond the call of duty. They called me when she went in to surgery, then call and suggested I not wait on another procedure, then they called when she was waking up. The main thing is that they called me, keeping me informed .I can't say enough about the skills and love they show the pets and their owner Jackie Frederickson is the real deal, she cares about animals and is an excellent vet! I've been taking my birds, cat and dog to her for years and she always does them right. Recently she neutered my puppy and she went out of her way to make it a positive experience for us both. Come here if you want the best for your pets. Hillside pet clinic is a place that really cares about the animals as well as the customer. I've taking my pets here over the years, and have been nothing but pleased with them.
