We have stayed at virtually every campground in the Anchorage area over the years and from our view, this is one of the best. Ship Creek RV is an amazingly peaceful and secure little oasis in the middle of downtown Anchorage and John and Heather (the campground hosts) go the extra mile to make sure you have the best possible experience while there. It's important to know that the campsites are near the railroad tracks and this is because the Alaska RR owns the land, but we find the train a somewhat intriguing experience and have even started learning what the different whistles mean. It's kind of fun to wave to the tourists when the tourist trains leave and return every day and we feel secure knowing that the area is patrolled by RR security. I mean, Anchorage is a city and like all cities, it is important to feel safe. We also love that this campground comes with bears. Yup. Black bears. I saw them more than once, but they were respectful bears for the most part and as long as you follow the rules about not leaving food out, they basically just pass through and give you that wildlife experience. This campground has great water and convenient hookups. Because it is older, the spaces a little narrow, but we were able to easily work around that. If you're vigilant, you might find some wild raspberries to snack on around the park and due to it's location, the convenience to accessing Anchorage and points beyond could not be any better. After staying there several times this summer, we highly recommend Ship Creek RV and look forward to visiting again during coming RV seasons. We met people from all over the world there, which really added to the experience. Had reservation via Tour Company. Pulled in for 5 minutes and left. Lots of drunk homeless and right next to a railroad track. The 5 minutes we were there a train came by and blew whistle. Knowing I had a all night flight the next day had to have sleep so left and found a different park. While somewhat close to downtown, I would not have felt safe walking there, even with my husband. I do not recommend to anyone who values sleep or safety. Well equipped RV park but surrounded by sketchy people and the road leading to it was very trashy. Busy railroad running next to park so can be noisy at times. Good salmon fishing within walking distance. Nice RV park. Very clean facilities (bathroom, showers, laundry) and friendly staff. Only downside is being next to the train tracks but its not so bad. Within walking distance to the Ulu factory - highly recommended. Worse place to park you're RV there were lots of empty spaces but the cramped us in between two others with the one slide out the neighbours could NOT sit at the pick nick table, then we were backed up right against the rail road and you get the full blast of the horn. But all is not bad friendly staff and the place is clean. WE stayed for 2 nights, just around the corner lots of homeless people camp. That's not the parks doing but it makes you a bit in easy.
