Saw the sign for this place from the window of the Anchorage Museum. Walked over just to see. I was warmly greeted by two ladies. I told them I don't eat fish, so I was having trouble deciding what to get. They talked up the fish and how good it was. Well, they talked me into trying the AK seafood gumbo. And now I guess I eat fish. It was delicious. One of the waitresses even got me a strip of catfish to try since I told her I'd never eaten it on account of always feeling like fish was gross. The catfish was really tasty! Good food and really friendly staff the day I went in. Roscoe even came out to say hi to me. I'd recommend this place. Sat down with a friend. After 20 minutes (I timed it) my friend decides to ask the waitress for water. At this point there is only 4 customers including my party. A single patron arrives followed quickly by another couple. So, that's a total of 7 customers. Waitress takes our order, obviously under the influence of some substance, and tells us to, "hurry up, I have other customers"..... yeah, they've been sitting for 30 minutes at this point and they don't even have drinks. (This place is maybe 20x15 ft space. She scurries away, skips the single guest who arrived first, and takes the couples order. This is where it gets good. She tells the single dude, "I'll be right back", pulls money from the register and walks out the front door. Never saw her again. At this point we're all looking at each other (me and the other guests) wondering what's going on. A different lady appears from the back, and we inform her of what happened. She pretended to be appalled. Long story short, the missing waitress never put in our orders, when it came, it came out wrong. The couple mouthed to us, "don't get the gumbo", and that single guy still hadn't gotten his coke. I don't know what restaurant these other reviews are for, but when I tell this story to anyone who has eaten there even once, they have a similar story to tell. You TOURISTS - don't be fooled. Walk up the road to Humpy's or Snow City (not the sandwich shop! Wait the 20 minutes to be sat) If you’re wondering if it’sgood... words can’t decide the feeling that overwhelms you when eatting here. My name is SGT Spirko I’m from Tampa, FL and in the Army I came down to anchorage from Fairbanks TDY for training... I passed by this place and was stuck! I couldn’t believe they had SOUL FOOD in Alaska. I stopped in and I was blown away by the southern hospitality, I miss so dearly and the food selection... I got the Mac and cheese (amazing), red beans and rice (to die for)and the brisket... I almost passed out from the explosion of flavor that took over my taste buds, I had flash backs of being back home having a Georgia style feast my buddies grandma would cook for us.. people cry about price I cry about quality and let me tell you I would have paid more for high quality TRUE soul food.. if you miss the south and want to drift away back to southern cooking you need to stop here right now! I give this place 10 out of 5 because it had me crying of joy I found a new place i love.. sadly I’m only here TDY, but you better believe I’m stopping here everytime i am in town! Not good at all prices were too high good wasn't good red beans and rice were cold Roscoe personally greeted us and made us feel very welcomed. The only thing better than the hospitality was the amazing food. If you are looking for great southern comfort food, this is the place to go. Oh and the sweet T and homemade lemonade are highly recommended.
