Great collection in a small space, with a variety of decorative and functional items as well as maps and coins. The descriptions are interesting and I learned a lot about Alaskan life. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Stopping in for 10 minutes or over an hour are both worthwhile! It's not at all clear from the outside, but this is on the first floor of the Wells Fargo building. It was interesting, educational, and free! It's very nice of them to provide this for the community, and if you're on a budget it may be a nice alternative to the Smithsonian exhibit. Great little museum; compact but incredibly interesting. It houses a collection of prehistoric Alaska artifacts, native crafts, more modern artifacts, scrimshaw, an original kayak, a few historical paintings and much more. Also has a fairly good size research library relating to Alaskan history and culture. Free admission, too. The caretaker, Walter, provided mini-tours of many of the artifact cases for us as well. Don't expect big place. However, the collection worth your time.
