Adventure Apparel is a great shop located in the Hotel Captain Cook. The window displays from the lobby are eye candy. Not geared toward the tourist, rather a shop with a very large inventory, including Patagonia, Barbour and so much more. Also shoes, children's items, as some artwork were available. The staff is knowledgeable and so helpful. I found items to be priced fairly. It's a shop that, whether visiting Anchorage or as resident, I would shop there. Interestingly, they offered a discount if you had your receipt from Snow City Cafe (a local cafe just around the corner that serves an incredible breakfast). I don't know if that's all the time or not. It is apparent that the last review is written by the owners. The problem I have with it is how they say thank you for supporting a local business. The business they run is everything but local. Pretty sure none of those brands listed there are made in the USA. I stayed at the Captain Cook Hotel once, and went to this store. As a local business owner I just don't understand how they can claim their business as local. We run a clothing and apparel shop where nothing we sell comes from longer than an 8 hour drive. How can someone buy at a premium for Arcteryx, and Patagonia when its Made in China. Dale of Norway is just a ridiculous concept. What makes that brand so expensive? I guess a few high rollers started strutting it up in Aspen, CO and off it went. How could people really ski in that gear? You would overheat, its heavy, and not flexible and over $300.00 for a sweater. No doubt that the owners may have a house in town but that doesn't mean they spend their money locally. Anchorage is an awful place to live. If your from there then you don't know any different and I'm sorry for that. If you've never lived anywhere besides Anchorage you should try. It's such an awful place that I highly doubt the owners spend all 12 months in Anchorage. That means that they don't spend their money locally. They also help the USA with the negative column in imports and exports by buying crap made in China and selling it to US citizens claiming they are a local business. When Cabela's Bass Pro, and Sportmens start taking over the Anchorage market this small Mom and Pop front doesn't stand a chance until they start selling stuff made in the USA. Anyway I leave it to you for your definition of a local business. Please stop supporting this fake front for local business. Here are a few made in the USA brands: All USA clothing SChott NYC Technical Advantage Gear Free Ride Systems and the Prospect Pants CO. Great selection of Arcteryx and Patagonia! Best selectiion of outdoor clothing: Patagonia, Arcteryx, sweaters and gifts in Anchorage
