If you're a working adult and want to take classes then have a look at night classes at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). If you're out of high school and plan to live with friends or your parents then you can't beat the convenience of a local campus. Online classes aren't for everyone, so consider UAA for the traditional higher education experience. I wish the University Center was located on main campus, but space is an issue around UAA. Checkout the new buildings on campus and some of the upgrades to the older buildings. During the summer this campus looks beautiful with all the flowers. Sadly finding food on campus is nearly impossible, so bring your lunch and relax at one of the many picnic tables. After reading all the negative reviews mostly from people who don't attend UAA I feel the need to write something. I am a UAA alumni and I'm really glad I went to this university. I learned so many useful life skills and gained many new perspectives and ways of thinking. Most of my teachers were great and and I can only remember like 3 I didn't like. The culinary program is top notch and constantly improving. In fact many people don't know there is a student lab restaurant called on Lucy's on campus with delicious food. And for the reviews from people offended by an Art professor making an expression about the President perhaps a more pro Trump college like Liberty University would suit you better. Got my BA in theatre and Dance. That dept is amazing!!!!!! It got me into grad school for film production. If u can take any class by Brian Jefferies or Jill Flanders Crosby do so! Even if theatre and dance not ur major!! I went to UAA many years ago, as did my brother and my stepfather. We all went on to attend either medical school or law school following graduation. After taking summer classes at UAA, I decided to transfer in from a UC university (where my classes were 500+). I transferred partly because of the lower tuition (UC school=out of state tuition) and partly because I really enjoyed my summer classes at UAA. What I remember liking about UAA was getting to know my professors. They were very interested in teaching and were personable and friendly. I loved pretty much all of my classes. I took advantage of other opportunities offered by the university as well. I participated in the outdoor program where I learned to climb mountains, rock and ice. I worked at the bookstore and tutored for extra money. I enrolled in a research lab and also went to UAF for a summer research internship. There is no reason you cannot achieve your goals following graduation from UAA, provided you work hard and take advantage of the opportunities it offers. I went on to medical school after graduating from UAA. Two of my close classmates went on to law school and medical school. Following graduation, my stepfather went to an IVY League law school and my brother went to law school on a scholarship (and graduated top of his law class). I'm going through the UAA representative on base to get a math class started. After registering for it I am told that I need a degree plan for me to be able to take the class. So this being my first time ever taking a physical college class I believe that I'm not fully enrolled in this class just projected to join. I later decide that I don't want to go through UAA since I will be leaving soon and don't want to pursue an online education through them. I stop all attempts to get a degree plan and think that I'm all clear. Well I'm still technically taking the class, not once was I notified about anything to do with that class through any medium. I get an email saying I owe $694, they don't even tell me what for, which I dismiss as some spam or something. Next time better educate your representatives to give accurate, clear information to likely first time college goers. Also a "1 week no work turn in drop out" policy would be awesome so future people avoid my situation. This school sucks, don't attend here, they don't care about students obviously, not somewhere you want to dump 100,000 for an education knowing that this institution is getting that money instead of a university worthy of it.
