Giving more than 1 star because all said and done- they still are the police and they keep us relatively safe. However, the fact that they do next to nothing about theft is unfortunate. If something is stolen from you in our city, don't even bother calling and just find it your self. APD won't help until you've already tracked the thief down. Ridiculous how negligent this police department is. I have lived all over and this is by far the worst police department I have ever come across. I have called twice about what I would consider serious issues. Once regarding some random people I personally viewed shooting up heroin in their vehicle in front of the apartment complex of where I lived (which is private and small) for over 2 hours and officers never showed. Two different people I know of called in the same hour about the same issue I later discovered. Still, no officer ever showed. I disregarded it as officers must not care about the drug use in Anchorage. I called months later about a man rummaging through personal belongings on someone's property nearby and putting things into a backpack of his and it appeared he had already taken some things and just had gotten away with it as he had more than one purse with him. I explained his appearance and attire to dispatchers and it's been two hours now and no officer has appeared. The man did rummage through personal property for at least an hour after I had called. An officer had plenty of time to arrive. APD is awesome and I appreciate everything they do for our community. Per 2010 reporting we have about 12 police officers per 10, 000 civilians. I'd say they are going above and beyond to keep us safe if that is the case I appreciated doing it on line. I would not call it "quick." This is only related to directions to send on the web site. It reads like I'm suppose to print before I send. I have no printer at the moment. I don't really know if the report arrived though it says so at the top. For low tech people not enough clear directions. Telephone directory is painfully large and antiquated. Spent 12 minutes trying to get a very simple question answered, but without knowing anyone's name I cannot use the directory. Business line loops and keeps you on hold indefinitely and entering "booking" gets you no where.
