These guys are amazing. Very kind and helpful. They have never given me bad advice and have never led me astray. Highly recommend to anyone who needs a wonderful mechanic!!! They’ve been great.. knowledgeable, thorough and very helpful. They don’t oversell products or services and will let you know what to watch, which is wonderful. They also have loaner cars, which is great. Awesome experience, very well run shop, very personable and VERY honest. I feel confident taking any vehicle here and confident in knowing that the repairs that are done are going to be done right and is what is needed for the vehicle. I was given a list of what still needed to be done but was not priority for the vehicle, yet... that really helped us work the repairs easily into our limited non-profit budget. We will DEFINITELY be back to complete the rest of the repairs at a later date and wont consider going to any other shop. Top notch service!! I recently took my Volvo in for an oil leak at my local mechanic here in Soldotna and was told the only way to fix it was to get a new engine for $5000. My parents mechanic suggested I get a second opinion and my friend recommended Independent Auto. They arranged my visit so it would be done in one day which was super helpful since I drove 2.5 hours to get there, let me have a loaner and was able to find and fix the actual problem for $200 and by 5pm. Sure beats a new car or engine. They were friendly and I felt taken care of. They found a few additional problems, but called and reviewed with me and let me decide what to fix. I'll be going back to see them for the rest of the repairs. Totally worth the 2.5 hour drive! Thanks guys! My dream of 20 years and 200,000 lives on. I've been back a few times to have additional repairs done. I am amazed by their ability to get repairs done same day and to diagnose a lot of issues over the phone based on my terrible descriptions. They remember me and my car. People think I'm crazy to drive to Anchorage, but these guys are worth it. I won't go else where! -Recently bought a new Volvo so I have to go to the dealership for service. I'm on my first service visit and I miss Independent Auto already. Way better service at Independent Auto and they never say one thing on the phone and something different in person. I picked this auto shop because of the high review ratings.. they replaced my alternator on my Subaru. After reviewing the work they had done and the bill I received I realize they charged me $270 for an alternator I could have picked up on my own for a hundred bucks. Having said that my real complaint is the fact that my belts were not tightened fully and give off horrible squeals anytime my car set at idle or when I turn my lights on. Today I went out and bought a socket set and fix the problem myself. While I believe in second chances, I feel the case in Auto Repair it should be right the first time. I later went to someone I know and found a place that would have done it for less money and had it done correctly the first time. Live and learn
